The Society Promoting Environmental Conservation (SPEC) is holding a series of classes for urban farmers, along with anyone wanting to take their gardening to the next level. The Urban Farmer Field School (UFFS) will provide participants with a blend of theory and application in topics like seed starting, medicinal herbs, and of course organic soil management. I’m excited to be co-teaching the soils component with my friend and fellow grad student Lis Thomas. We’re going to cover the physics, chemistry, and biology of soil management for gardeners. You’ll learn to hand texture, take a soil sample, and balance your compost to optimize nutrients for plant health. Pre-registration is required, and class sizes are limited, so sign up quick!
